Predicting the mechanical behaviour of a sandy clay stabilised with an alkali-activated binder

چکیده

There is a growing interest in the geomechanical behaviour of low performing soils strengthened with alkali-activated materials, which have been promoted as low-carbon-footprint binders. This paper focuses on performance sandy clay stabilised NaOH-activated blast furnace slag after short (28 days) and long (90 curing periods. Triaxial compression experiments were conducted at range mean effective stresses (41 to 600 kPa) overconsolidation ratios (1 12.2). The experimental data was used calibrate kinematic hardening constitutive model ability capture artificially investigated. results carried out soil both periods showed resembling that observed for cement-mixed clays. model, had never tested soils, successfully predicted smooth elastoplastic transition non-stabilised specimens peak/residual shear strains strain-softening peak strengths its state 28 90 days.

Mechanical and leaching behaviour of slag-cement and lime-activated slag stabilised/solidified contaminated soil.

Stabilisation/solidification (S/S) is an effective technique for reducing the leachability of contaminants in soils. Very few studies have investigated the use of ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) for S/S treatment of contaminated soils, although it has been shown to be effective in ground improvement. This study sought to investigate the potential of GGBS activated by cement and lime...

Nonlinear Thermo-Mechanical Behaviour Analysis of Activated Composites With Shape Memory Alloy Fibres

General thermo-mechanical behavior of composites reinforced by shape memory alloy fibers is predicted using a three-dimensional analytical micromechanical method to consider the effect of fibers activation. Composite due to the micromechanical method can be exposed to general normal and shear mechanical and thermal loading which cause to activate the shape memory alloy fibers within polymeric m...

Impact of gasoline contamination on mechanical behavior of sandy clay soil

Oil leakage causes soil contamination and induces changes in the physical and mechanical properties of soils. In areas contaminated with oil products such as gasoline, the implementation of civilian operations requires determination and prediction of soil behavior in the existing conditions. In this research work, the effect of oil contamination by gasoline obtained from the National Oil Compan...

An experimental and constitutive investigation on the chemo-mechanical behaviour of a clay

Engineering issues for which the understanding of the chemo-mechanical behaviour of soils is relevant include wellbore stability problems, the salinification of groundwater, and nuclear waste storage. However, despite the vast number of situations in which couplings between chemistry and mechanics occur, the available constitutive models rely on limited experimental evidence. This paper present...
